Completely dead: the display, lights, and drum light do nothing. Start with the home power supply and visible cord condition.
Controls work but no cycle begins: look for Control Lock, Delay Start, an open-door indication, an error code, or a start button that must be held.
Timer counts down but the drum does not move: the command was accepted, but a mechanical, motor, switch, wiring, or control problem may be preventing operation.

Press and hold Start
Some dryers require the Start button or knob to be held for two to five seconds. Use a clean, dry fingertip on touch controls; a quick tap or fingernail may not register.
Turn off Control Lock and Delay Start
A lock, child, or delayed-start indicator can prevent immediate operation. Use the instructions printed on the control panel or in the manual for the exact model instead of guessing at a button combination.
Try Timed Dry with an empty drum
A simple timed cycle removes moisture sensors and an already-dry load from the test. Confirm whether the displayed time actually counts down after Start is held.
Reset the dryer breaker once
Switch the correct breaker fully off, wait about 30 seconds, and switch it back on. Electric dryers normally use a linked two-pole breaker. If the breaker trips again, stop and call a qualified electrician or technician.
Record what happens
Note whether the display works, the drum light comes on, the timer counts down, and the dryer clicks or hums. Photograph the full model number and any error display before scheduling.
Stop troubleshooting if the cord or outlet has burn marks, the breaker trips again, the dryer smokes or sparks, you smell burning or gas, or the motor hums without turning. Disconnect power only when it is safe to do so. Never bypass the door switch, thermal fuse, belt switch, or another safety device.
What professional diagnosis separates
A no-start symptom does not name the failed part.
Once settings, the door, and the external power supply are ruled out, testing may involve the door switch, thermal fuse, start switch, drive belt or belt-sensing system, motor, wiring, relay, or electronic control. Exact designs vary by model.
A dryer that lights up still may not be supplying power through the complete start circuit. A timer counting down does not prove the motor is able to run. And a broken belt may produce a different response on a model equipped with a belt switch than on one without it.

Why does my dryer have power but not start?
