No heat: after several minutes on a heated cycle, the inside of the dryer still feels cold. Electric supply, the heating system, a safety device, wiring, or controls may be involved.
Slow drying: the dryer produces heat, but a load takes far too long or remains damp. Restricted airflow, a crushed exhaust, a loaded lint screen, an oversized load, or clothes leaving the washer excessively wet are common starting points.
A restricted vent can also overheat the machine and contribute to component failure, so airflow still matters even when another part ultimately caused the no-heat complaint.
What professional diagnosis separates
On an electric dryer, a no-heat complaint can involve the incoming 240-volt supply, terminal connection, heating element, thermal fuse or cutoff, thermostat, wiring, motor switch, relay, or electronic control. On a gas dryer, the igniter, flame sensor, valve coils, gas supply, safety devices, wiring, or controls may be involved.

An electric dryer normally uses a two-pole 240-volt circuit. The motor can sometimes tumble with one side of that supply missing. Switch the dryer breaker fully off, wait about 30 seconds, and switch it back on once. If it trips again, stop and call an electrician or qualified technician.
For a gas dryer, confirm the accessible shutoff handle is parallel with the pipe. If you smell gas, do not operate the dryer or electrical switches—leave the area and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Remove lint from the screen and look for an exhaust hose crushed behind the dryer. Do not pull out a heavy or stacked unit unsafely. The exhaust should terminate outdoors, not inside the room or attic.
If the washer left clothing dripping wet, use a drain-and-spin cycle first. A very large or soaking load can imitate weak dryer performance even when heat is present.
