Standing water and soaked clothing point in different directions.
Water remains in the tub: the washer did not move the water out normally. The cycle, hose, household drain, pump path, pump, wiring, lock input, or control may be involved.
The tub is empty, but clothes are soaked: the washer may have drained but failed to reach normal spin speed. An unbalanced load, low-spin cycle, oversudsing, suspension problem, lock issue, drive failure, or control condition may be involved.
The washer drains and immediately fills or drains continuously: hose placement or siphoning may be the real issue. Installation dimensions vary by model, so the use-and-care or installation guide matters.

These checks stay outside the cabinet. If the pump makes a harsh grinding sound, water is leaking, or electrical safety is in doubt, stop instead of restarting the cycle.
Rebalance, then use Drain & Spin
If one blanket or a few heavy items are piled on one side, redistribute them. Select Drain & Spin once if the machine is not leaking or making an alarming sound.
Check detergent and suds
Too much detergent—or non-HE detergent in a high-efficiency washer—can create enough suds to interfere with draining and spinning. Do not add more soap to “help” the cycle finish.
Inspect the visible drain hose
Look for a hose crushed behind the washer, sharply kinked, or shoved unusually far into the standpipe. Do not pull a heavy or stacked machine out unsafely.
Check the lid, door, and display
Close the lid or door firmly without forcing it, disable Control Lock if shown, and photograph the exact code or flashing-light pattern before resetting power once.
Stop troubleshooting if the washer leaks toward electrical connections, the breaker trips again, you smell burning, the pump grinds harshly, the door glass is damaged, or the only next step would require moving a full machine or opening the cabinet.
About the pump filter
“Clean the filter” is not universal advice.
Some front-load washers provide a small emergency drain tube and customer-accessible pump filter behind a lower access door. Other front-loaders and many top-loaders do not. Filter location, draining procedure, and water volume vary by model.
Before opening anything, read the exact owner’s manual. Turn the washer off, prepare a low container and towels, and remember that a full tub can release far more water than a small pan holds. If a hot or sanitize cycle ran recently, allow the water to cool; Samsung currently recommends approximately one hour before its drain procedure.
If no model-specific procedure is available, the filter is inaccessible, or the washer contains a large volume of water, leave it closed and schedule service.

Can water leave the machine?

A silent pump, humming pump, intermittent pump, and normal-sounding pump with no flow lead to different electrical and mechanical tests. Controls and wiring can imitate a failed pump.
Did another condition stop the cycle?
Lid or door locking, excessive suds, load balance, water-level sensing, motor behavior, and stored error information can prevent the washer from reaching or completing drain and spin.

Why is my washer still full of water?
A kinked or incorrectly installed hose, blocked household drain, debris in the pump path, failed pump, lid or door condition, wiring fault, or control problem can all interrupt draining. Load balance, cycle selection, and excessive suds can also keep some machines from finishing normally.
Can I run Drain & Spin again?
One attempt is reasonable after redistributing an unbalanced load and checking the visible hose—provided the washer is not leaking, grinding, smelling hot, or creating an electrical concern. Stop if the same failure returns.
Should I open the pump filter?
Only when the exact washer manual identifies a customer-accessible filter and gives a procedure you can follow safely. Some washers have no accessible filter, and a full tub can release a large amount of water. Recently heated water also needs time to cool.
Why are the clothes soaked if the tub is empty?
The washer may have drained but not completed high-speed spin. Load balance, selected spin speed, excess suds, the lid or door lock, suspension, drive system, motor circuit, or controls may be involved.
